GIVING

For St Michael's Church to achieve its priorities, we rely on the donations of our church
community, whether that is financial giving or giving time and resources.

Even a small gift can grow into something transformative.
Give what you can and see how your gifts are powerful in God’s hands.

"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain,
'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
Matthew 17:20

Make regular financial contributions to the work of St Michael's Church

Regular Giving

If you would like to give regularly to the Church then the best way is to use the Parish Giving Scheme. This scheme is available through the Diocese of Gloucester. They don’t charge any fees for the service, so 100% of your donation goes to St Michael and All Angels Church.

If you would like to know more about the scheme visit: Gloucester Diocese website. Setting up a regular donation is very easy and can be done by phone. Just call or email the team on 0333 002 1260 or info@parishgiving.org.uk. The code for St Michael and All Angels Church is ‘BISH’. The Parish Giving Scheme team will collect your details and set everything up.

If you are a UK tax payer then the scheme will give you to option to automatically collect the Gift Aid and pay that direct to the church periodically. Every £1 you donate could turn in to £1.25 just by agreeing! The scheme also allows donator to set a standard increase each year so your giving stays in line with inflation. If you have set up the Parish Giving Scheme, you can also contact the team to make a one-off additional donation and amending your donation up or down is just as easy. Your personal details are closely protected (as one would expect) and you can even opt to be anonymous on the statement that the PCC Treasurer receives.

Standing Orders. These were a great way to give regularly but they are more tricky to amend, they don’t increase with inflation and the collection of Gift Aid is manual and relying on the donors filling out other paperwork that expires every 4 years. A Standing Order of £20 per week created in 2000 would need to be increased to £29.71 per week to retain the equivalent value in 2020. Although, it is not the preferred method of donation, Standing Orders can be created and the bank details can be provided by the PCC Treasurer by emailing: Dsnape@stmichaelsbishopscleeve.co.uk.

Occasional Giving

An occasional donation is any donation that is not automatically transacted bank to bank. It might be that you give routinely every week but this is still categorised as Occasional Giving. There are a range of ways to make this sort of donation.

Bank Transfer. If you are contemplating a larger donation and you want to avoid the transaction costs, you can contact the PCC Treasurer via Dsnape@stmichaelsbishopscleeve.co.uk to request the bank details. This sort of donation can also be restricted to a specific purpose. If you are a UK tax payer, you can opt-in to Gift Aid but separate forms will need to be completed.

Card Payments. The Church Office has a debit card machine that will take card payments but there is a small transaction fee that is deducted from the donated amount. This sort of donation can also be restricted to a specific purpose. If you are a UK tax payer then you can opt-in to Gift Aid but separate forms will need to be completed which can be obtained through the PCC Treasurer via Dsnape@stmichaelsbishopscleeve.co.uk.

Service Collections

If you are physically in the church then donations can be made into the old oak chest at the back of church or at the appropriate time during a church service.

Cash and cheque donations. Unless the cash is in a giving envelope (available in the church), then it is treated as anonymous and Gift Aid will be claimed under the Small Donations Gift Aid Scheme.

Contactless donations. Donations of £3, £5 and £10 can be made through the contactless donation machine that will be set out during services. Contactless cards and smartphones brought into proximity with the contactless machine will have the offering taken automatically. Use the button on the front to scroll through the donation values. Listen for the beep as the acknowledgement that your donation has ben taken. You can bring your payment card or device close to the contactless machine more than once if you would like to give more.

Giving your Time or Skills

St Michael's Church relies heavily on the generosity of voluntary giving as well as financial giving.

There are many areas of ministry in which you can support the church, whether that's pastorally, with children and young people, with families or the elderly, administration, care of our church and grounds and many other areas. There are also a number of rotas for services such as coffee, welcoming people into church, churchwatch, and assisting at private events.

Voluntary support can be regular or occasional, whatever suits you. You can try a role and if it doesn't work for you, try something else.

If you feel you would like to find out more about volunteering at St Michael's Church, please contact Church Office.
