About us
The North Cotswold Foodbank project was founded in 2011 in local churches and community groups working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. The Bishop’s Cleeve outlet opened in 2014 and there are now 6 outlets in the Cotswolds.
Every day, people in Bishop's Cleeve go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. North Cotswold F oodbank provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to local people experiencing crisis.
The Foodbank relies on the support of the local community through volunteering, food donations and fundraising. Almost all food is donated by the community through churches, schools, businesses and supermarket collection days.
Clients are referred to the service by frontline care professionals such as social workers, debt advisors, medical professionals and teachers, who identify people in need and give them a voucher they can exchange for a food parcel containing nutritionally balanced food, meat and fruit and vegetable vouchers, and often toiletries, household cleaning items and nappies.
Bishop's Cleeve Foodbank is run by a team of volunteers who give up their time to sort the food that has been donated, make up food parcels and ensure that food is received by those who need it most.
