Update on Chaplaincy Champions

Hello,
We are so grateful for your ongoing support of the chaplaincy at Cleeve School.
Big News – Recruitment
We anticipate releasing the recruitment advert for the new part-time chaplaincy post in early to mid-May.
This marks a major step forward in the long-term sustainability of the chaplaincy, made possible through grant funding awarded by the Diocese of Gloucester. The post will initially run for three years, with the possibility of extension. We are already working to secure future funding, and you—along with those who may join as Chaplaincy Champions—are vital to making this possible.
In-School Work
Volunteers
We are delighted to have welcomed two new volunteers to the in-school team. Emile and Lesley have both become mentors, supporting Year 9 and Year 7 students respectively, and are working closely with pastoral care teams.
This has enabled me (Ben) to focus more fully on recruitment, while also creating more time to connect with Year 8 students, sixth formers, and staff. Amy Todd continues faithfully serving Year 7s (as well as some other year groups) every other week.
Bereavement Support
A significant and sensitive part of our recent work has been supporting sixth form staff and students following the death of one of Cleeve School’s students.
This support remains ongoing through listening, presence, pastoral care, and quietly holding space for those who are grieving. We have also supported students affected by a recent road incident near the school.
We remain ready to respond with care and compassion should further incidents arise.
Enrichment Event
On 24th March, we also took part in an enrichment event for parents and students. This was an excellent opportunity to meet families, explain our work, and strengthen the chaplaincy’s place within the wider school community.
We particularly valued connecting with organisations the church already partners with, such as the Foodbank, while also building new relationships with others who play an important role locally—including Move More, which is taking over the running of Homelands Community Centre.
Berkhampstead School
I (Ben) have also been invited to join the Assistant Head Teacher in delivering an external assembly at Berkhampstead School in June.
Plans are still being developed, but it is encouraging to see that Cleeve School seems eager to share the story of chaplaincy more widely across the area.
Thank You
We are deeply grateful for your prayers, encouragement, and financial support. None of this would be possible without you.
If you know anyone who may be interested in becoming a Chaplaincy Champion, please do pass on the invitation.
Supporters can give online through the Cleeve Vision Fund – Parish Giving.
We suggest a gift of £17 a month (or £204 a year), but there is complete flexibility—every gift, large or small, helps this ministry continue to grow and flourish.
Thank you again for walking with us in this important and hope-filled work.
